A centuries-old diamond passed down through many generations of European royalty was sold for $9.7 million in Geneva on Tuesday at an auction.

The royal connections of this diamond date back to 1604 when it was acquired by Henri IV of France at the persistence of his wife Marie de Medici desiring it. The 35-carat “Beau Sancy” diamond was then clothed by Marie de Medici, Queen consort of Henry IV, at her coronation in 1610.

There were five persistent bidders in different continents wanting this historic precious jewel at Sotheby’s auction, however during the auction an anonymous telephone bidder won, and purchased the historic diamond . The anonymous buyer  paid 9,042,500 Swiss francs, which is $9,699,618 American dollars.

• We just heard on MomTutor that recent Mom, Jessica Simpson is adding to her billion dollar clothing line with stylish maternity fits. Now 31, Jessica announced Monday that a partnership between Camuto Group, the master licensee behind her label, and retailer Destination Maternity for the brand new line which will have her name plastered on it.
• Just like her FashionStar conterpart Nicole Richie, this new line will have a boho 1970s vibe. Simpson is already expected to net $14M this year from her clothing lines, not including this new one.
• We’re not the biggest Jessica Simpson fans here at HauteCast but helping style pregnant women was a wide open opportunity and we commend her for the effort. Good job Jess!
